Disco Party

"The ultimate disco party"

Disco. That word alone sends chills down my spine and puts a smile on my face. This is the most fun of all the teen party themes!

We all love a disco party!

What is disco...well, some people thought is was about discovering yourself and the true meaning of the dance floor.

No, I am not kidding!

But, they were the serious disco kings and queens.

For most of us, a night of a disco was about the ball spinning and the music so loud you lost your hearing for a day or two, and of course, DANCING!

Do you remember...

  • The Village People
  • Mustangs
  • Bell Bottoms
  • The Bee Gees
  • Saturday Night Fever
  • Big sunglasses
  • Halter Tops
  • peace sign jewelry
  • Donna Summer
  • Platform Shoes
  • White Leisure Suits
  • Tie Dye
  • Vinnie Barbarino
  • Disco Clothes
  • brightly colored Shirts
  • Camero's with T-tops
  • Shiny shirts - Lycra?
  • Big Hair with "wings"

Okay, so maybe you don't...but your parents do!

You know, it's okay to admit it! Do you remember the 1970's and the disco craze?

If your teen wants a totally rockin party, then the disco party is a must do!

Since this can be a disco party or a 1970's flower child themed party, I have decided to make separate pages dedicated to each. Here we will talk about the disco theme.

So, are you ready to put on your leisure suit and platforms?

Turn on the music and let's dance!

This is what you will need:

To host a disco party, you will need some awesome party decoration ideas with a disco focus, disco music from the seventies, think the Bee Gees and Donna Summer, some good party food ideas and a great attitude!

Throw your teen a disco party that will not be forgotten!

Disco Invitations

Let's set the theme right from the start with some disco invitations! Make sure your guests know that they will need to dance the night away!

Dress the part

Be sure to tell your guests that this party is all about Participation!

You may want to send a special note with your invitation giving them ideas on what to wear. You can put on it...

SPECIAL NOTICE:

It's the 1970's and disco is where it's at, so let's wear our grooviest clothes and party down!

Come in your favorite seventies clothes like...

  • Bell bottoms
  • Long straight hair
  • silk jacket
  • platform shoes
  • Bright colored cloths
  • Tie dye
  • Wrap dresses
  • Hippy clothes
  • Big sunglasses
  • Velour shirts
  • Silk shirts
  • Afro hair
  • Peace sign jewelry
  • White Polyester suits
  • Halter tops
  • Friendship bracelets
  • daisies in their hair

Disco Decorations

As you would expect, the decorations are a very big part of this theme. We recommend taking a look at these perfect disco party supplies. You will find everything you need!

What you need at a glance:

  • The Disco Ball - A must!
  • Balloons
  • Plates, cups, napkins, all disco style.
  • forks, spoons, knives
  • Banners - Disco, of course!
  • Peace signs
  • Anything Beaded
  • Party favors
  • Invitations
  • 1970s candy
  • Black Lights
  • foods of the seventies

Your front door entrance should set the theme. You can do this by having a cut out of John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever to welcome your guests. You might want to take pictures of each guest with John as they come in, and give them out as party favors at the end of the night.

Your party room - Set it up with one large disco ball or many small ones hanging from the ceiling. At your doorway you can hang a beaded curtain, and have some lava lamps around. Be sure to have room for dancing!

And most importantly...the party music should be playing and the atmosphere should be just right!

1970s popular Food

For a great party you will have to serve up some of the tasty foods for parties you remember from the seventies!

Here are some popular foods and drinks from the seventies!

Most music stores carry a CD of disco or 1970's style music compilations. Pick one up if the task of putting your own together is too much!

Party Favors & Prizes

If you are planning to have any type of contest, it's a good idea to offer a prize.

These can be fun and inexpensive and add some fierce competition to the party!

Some of my favorites include:

  • Mini disco ball
  • Lava Lamp

Why should you have a disco party?

The disco party is one of the most fun to have or attend! Think about it, the seventies was such a fun time for fashion with wigs, big gold chains, bright colored cloths and platform shoes and don't forget all the different types of music!

But most important...the disco ball!

The 1970's rocked!
